House Projects

So I said my goal for the year was to organize our home and I was having a hard time trying to figure out what to do.  I went through the kids clothes and toys with a few bags to get rid of, but that was about it. I was talking to Joe about how frustrated I was with our lack of space. He suggested we figure out ways to have more space. Yesterday he told me to get a pad of paper and we walked through every room and wrote down what needs to be done and how we could fix the space to make it better.  Joe is super handy but has been working crazy hours for a long time so he just doesn't have the time. BUT he promised to help me get these things on our list done. He will do some of the work and we will be hiring people to do the big projects to save time. Our goal is to rent or sell this home at some point so we need to get it ready for that.

So here is just part of the list...it was three pages long. :)

As you can see we already got some things done today! He was home today and we were kid free for part of the day so we headed to Home Depot with our note pad and measurements.  We priced out lots of items and will want to shop around but we have prices written down so that will help.

We decided to start with adding some shelves to two closets that had room to add shelves to.  Joe had enough to make an extra shelf to go in one of my kitchen cabinets too. So while he cut I was in charge of emptying everything out. It was also a great time to wipe down all the shelves with some Basic H. They were flithy!! I found a lot of crap that I didn't even realize I had. I have a hard time parting with things but today I threw a lot out and set some aside to get rid of!

So I started with cleaning out an area that has gotten out of hand. Most of this stuff is my seasonal decor that is breakable. And a ton of candles! Yikes! I used to always burn candles before the kids came along but haven't since Daniel was born. I have a problem with buying stuff on clearance too so that's where all the extra candles came from. lol It was a mess, I am embarrassed to show it.

Yeah it was bad but it's better now! :)
I decided I wanted to make these two shelves for the kids.  Their art supplies were everywhere. Crayons in my scrapbooking baskets in the dining room, art supplies in the kitchen and other hall closet, playdoh in the hutch, coloring books under the coffee table and so on. It was crazy and so hard to find what we needed. I knew I wanted to get some baskets to store it all in.  When we were at Home Depot I saw some that might work but we measured them and came home to see if it would work out. They were perfect so I went back and bought 4. They come in a chocolate brown and ivory. I went with the brown.  So I first pulled everything out from all over the house and slowly sorted and put them in baskets.  I used some scrapbooking tags to label the baskets to make it easy to know what is in each basket and will help when we need to put our things away.  I love how it looks now! Nice, clean and organized!!! Love it! We can now find what we need for homework and crafts! It is easy for Daniel to get into as well. It has a lock so Lauren can't get in and pull it all out.
One basket is just holding candles for now but I will be taking them out tomorrow. I think I will put some puzzles in it.

A close up of my tag. We had a ton of coloring books and stickers! Way too many! I filled a grocery bag of stuff to take to school to share with my students!

Next up is the front entry closet. The top had so much wasted space. I forgot to take a picture before I cleared it out but it was a mess too. :(

And now after with the extra shelf added up top.

Much better! I was able to pull out some games and puzzles from a few different places and put them together on the top shelf. There is even a little space left!

There is one more closet in the hall that Joe made three new shelves for and even added a door but it's not done yet because the shelves were still not dry.  I will be working on it tomorrow and will add those pictures.
So thankful for Joe's handy work today! And more importantly thankful for some organizing progress!!!
Have a great week!!

2014

Happy New Year! I can't believe it is 2014! It doesn't seem possible that another year has gone by. I don't like how fast the years go by!

I decided to follow some scrapbookers and bloggers and pick a word for myself this year. I don't usually write up resolutions.  I decided on the word Organize!  I used to be such an awesome organizer. Growing up I would organize for my mom. I even got paid in the summers to organize a few neighbor ladies closets and kitchens.  BUT life has gotten crazy and I am tired of the clutter and chaos that is around me in my home.  It makes me sad when I see it and I know that I can make it better. Our home is getting small but I know I can declutter and find new ways to organize until we can move to a little larger home.

So my goals for the year are to ORGANIZE my home, my business, my work place. I know that I can work slowly on this during the year ahead and hopefully find a new system for a lot of areas.  I need to do this for me and my sanity! It drives me crazy and puts me in a bad mood! lol So I started tonight by organizing some paperwork.  It felt good to accomplish something!

I posted this here to hold myself to it! Off to organize!

Testimonials

My favorite part of my little Shaklee business is hearing from my members after they have purchased our products and love them! That is one of the reasons why I decided to share Shaklee with others, I fell in love with the cleaning products!

So this is a message I received this week from a new member who is also currently pregnant. I was thrilled to hear that she loved her Get Clean Kit!

"I love my Shaklee cleaning products. They work as good as or better than the toxic cleaners I was using before. The window cleaner is amazing! The laundry products smell fresh and clean. The best part is I can use them without worrying about exposing my baby to harm while I am pregnant! Thanks for your help;) I hope to place another order in the new year !"

Thanks for your comments Tanya! Glad you love them!!

Incredivities for your children

Do your kiddos take a multivitamin? This is the only one I have given my kids and they love them! Lauren hasn't had a cold yet. She is my Shaklee baby! I started on Shaklee vitamins when I was pregnant with her and I know it has made all the difference for her! Daniel has also been so much healthier since we started him on these. He was sick a lot as a little guy.
With cold and flu season coming it's important to give your kids the best vitamins out there! I also do not give my kids flu shots, I never get them either, the choice we have made as a family.
Check them out on my website!

Take Back the Pink!

It's Breast Cancer "Prevention" Month! Take Back the Pink and say no to Pinkwashing!

By now you've probably heard that October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. This campaign is to educate women to get screened for cancer cells that might already be present in their body. Although this is a great stride towards early cancer detection and treatment, there remains much to be accomplished. Today we remain dedicated to educating and empowering women to take charge of their own breast health. Go beyond just being "aware" of breast cancer and take steps to actually PREVENT breast cancer in the first place!

Have you ever thought about the fact that many of the personal care products that have the iconic pink ribbon on their label to promote Breast Cancer Awareness, have cancer causing ingredients in their product! Or a recent soup company proudly showing their support of breast cancer awareness, while the soup cans are lined with the chemical BPA which has been linked to breast cancer?

Sadly, some women are getting breast cancer under the age of 35, far before their first "recommended" mammogram. And every time that we go in for a routine mammogram, we subject ourselves to radiation, increasing our breast cancer risk by 5%. There has to be a better solution! Rather than only relying on the hope that cancer is detected early or that we are strong enough to battle it, it is time that we take some serious steps to prevent it in the first place! We have started a campaign to "Take Back the Pink!" to make October about promoting steps for Prevention!

One of the Preventative steps that you can easily take is to lower your cancer risk is to get rid of household chemicals and take daily supplements to help boost your body's immune system and get the essential nutrition it needs.

We LOVE Shaklee's Get Clean non-toxic and chemical free cleaning line! It matches or outperforms 20 National Brands and saves thousands of dollars while improving your health!
Simple Steps for Cancer Prevention

Eat Healthy- Recommendations by the American Cancer Society is a minimum of five servings of fruits and vegetables a day (or 2-1/2 cups) to lower the risk of developing cancer.
Smart Supplementation- It is important to raise Vitamin D-3 levels. If you are among those women not getting five or more servings of antioxidant rich fruits and veggies consider supplementing with good quality antioxidants such as natural Vitamin C, E, and Beta Carotene (or better yet a Carotonoids blend) to help protect cells.
Exercise Regularly- Health experts recommend two and a half hours of exercise each week to keep your immune system strong.
Reduce Carcinogen Exposure-Don't smoke or be around second hand smoke, environmental pollutants or toxic cleaning products.
More Info on Supplements

The Facts:
  • Studies have shown that women who use ordinary cleaning products can be two times more likely to develop breast cancer than those who use a more natural cleaning approach.
  • Women who work at home have a 54% higher death rate from cancer than those who work away from home. The 150year study concluded it was a direct result of the much higher exposure rate to toxic chemicals in common household products!

My Shaklee Story

I first heard about Shaklee online through a blog.  It was about 3 years ago that I found and started reading Bonnie Donahue's blog. She was posting before and after pictures using Shaklee products and I was amazed at the results.  I also hadn't really realized how harmful the chemical cleaners I had in my home at that time were. After finding Bonnie's blog I started reading other blogs with Shaklee before and afters and I was hooked. I knew I had to try them.
About this same time, Joe's cousin Rachel friended me on Facebook and she started posting things about Shaklee.  I immediately asked her how I could place my first order! I purchased a Basic Kit and was so excited to get it!

The first thing I did when I got my order was to try out the Scour Off on my shower door!  I was amazed at how well it cleaned my glass door and the tiles! I called Joe at work to tell him! He was the one who had been cleaning the shower previously and he was glad that I found something that I loved and would now start cleaning the shower again. :) We have hard water and so the door and tile would get horrible soap scum. Over the years we had tried all kinds of cleaners. Each time I used one for awhile and then would try some other brand. Joe had actually taken the door off the last time to clean. I right away told Rachel how excited I was about the Scour Off! I hadn't even tried anything else yet but I asked her for information about becoming a distributor.  I just wanted to share the product with family and a few friends nothing too serious.  I signed up in November of 2010.
I tried the rest of my kit but also started using the laundry products.  I also bought some vitamins. I bought some pre-natal vitamins. Shaklee doesn't have a pre-natal vitamin but just the multi-vitamin and a few others added.  I got my vitamins but was already taking my Target brand pre-natal. I wasn't pregnant yet but was trying to get pregnant. I did get pregnant later that month and continued to use myTarget brand of vitamins; I wanted to use them up before starting my new ones.  I was feeling horrible though. I felt sick and wasn't really eating well.  I decided to stop using the Target vitamins and starting using the Shaklee vitamins.  I felt better shortly after and continued to have a great pregnancy. I also had a great delievery! I remember reading about women who using Shaklee vitamins and how they had great pregnancies and deliveries and hoped for the same! I call Lauren my Shaklee baby! She has had Shaklee vitamins all along and has been such a healthy little girl! She is almost two and still hasn't had a cold! She has only been on antibiotics once for an eye infection! I know it's all the Shaklee vitamins that she takes now! We all have been so much healthier after getting rid of all the chemical cleaning products in our home and switching to Shaklee vitamins.
Over the last few years I have grown my business slowly only by sharing my experiences with the products that I love. I also have read tons of testimonials and read about the dangers of using chemical cleaners. I use most of the products that Shaklee offers and LOVE them all.  If you would like more information on any of the products I would love to share them with you.  I have made a basket, I call it my "Going Green for a Week Basket," if you are local you are more than welcome to try them yourself and see how great they are.
I truly wouldn't recommend these products if I didn't believe in them and the Shaklee company! There is not requirement to buy a certain amount of products every month, you buy as you need.  You can visit my store here.  I could go on and on about Shaklee, I am passionate now about sharing and helping others make their homes and their lives healthier!!

Vinegar Vs. Basic H

What I am going to share is from a Facebook group of amazing Shaklee users and distributors. My mom used vinegar growing up but has switched to Basic H. I used it in my home but not often because I disliked the smell. Basic H has no smell, which I personally like because I had always been sensitive to cleaners scents.

I talk to a lot of people who tell me they use vinegar and/or baking soda. So if you use Vinegar take a minute to read this.

Even if you thought you were saving money and helping the environment
using the old stand-by of vinegar and baking soda you might be interested in
learning that even these formulas from the past end up costing more and are
actually creating more packaging waste. Not fitting in with today's picture
of being environmental.

Get Clean Basic H2 vs. Vinegar and/or Baking Soda

Usage Per Gallon for a General Cleaner
Vinegar - 1/2 cup
Basic H2 - 2 teaspoons

Distilled Vinegar (1/2 cup per gallon of water for general cleaning)
Cost per bottle = 16 oz / .89 cents (Acme brand 10/09)
Usage Cost: to make 1 gallon general cleaner = .22 cents
Usage Cost: to make 48 gallons general cleaner = $10.68
Packaging Waste: 12 Bottles to make 48 gallons of general cleaner

note: if you need to add baking soda, dish soap, or oil to the formula for
persistant stains or cleaning that's an additional expense and additional
packaging waste.

Shaklee Basic H2 (2 teaspoons per gallon of water for ALL-PURPOSE Cleaner)
Over 1000 different uses with this one bottle!

Cost per bottle = 16 oz / $10.35 (10/09)
Usage Cost: to make 1 gallon All-Purpose Cleaner = .22 cents
Usage Cost: to make 48 gallons All-Purpose Cleaner = $10.68
ONE Bottle makes 48 Gallons of All-Purpose Cleaner!
(One bottle of Basic H2 equals the cleaning uses of 5,824 bottles of 26 oz.
Windex)

For every ONE Bottle of Basic H2 used for All-Purpose Cleaning you would
use 12 bottles of vinegar plus, if needed, baking soda to do the same amount
of clean. Plus, Basic H2 has the smell of "clean" and is pH balanced with
our skin. No need to wear gloves or a mask.

*My Basic H bottle lasted me two and a half years! I use it all the time too. I know that if I was using vinegar or traditional cleaners from the store I would have spent more than what I paid for the bottle over the same time period!

Got Stains?

Lauren has always hated wearing bibs! She would pull them off everytime so I gave up on them. However that means I deal with lots of food stains on her shirts. I'll be honest I had gotten rid of almost all my store bought cleaners except Shout. I had a huge Sam's Club bottle and hated to just get rid of it. SO I had been using it until recently I decided to try using my Shaklee detergent. I knew it would work so much better than the Shout and I was right!

Here is a shirt of Lauren's that she wore while eating spaghetti. I left to sit a few days and then rubbed it with the detergent. I put a drop on my finger and rubbed it on each area. I only let it sit for a few hours and then threw it in the wash with the rest of Lauren's clothes.

After

Doesn't it look so much better? And btw, this is a hand me down shirt too! I think it looks brand new!

I use the Fresh Scent Laundry Deterget. I love the smell it has, it's very light, not strong like a store bought detergent.

Here is the link to it. Shaklee also has a fragance free detergent.
I also use Shaklee dryer sheets when it comes to laundry. They are great and leave your clothes static free! The best part is they are biodegradable!

(I can't figure out how to rotate my pictures! I have tried several times, sorry! I will play with it more later.)

Have a great weekend!

Defend and Resist!

I have mentioned how much my family loves Shaklee's Defend and Resist! It's amazing and it works! We have been using it for about two years now! I received this great testimonial from a coworker and wanted to share.

Thank you so much for introducing me to the Shaklee Defend and Resist Complex product. I love it! Thifted shelf makeover

I have been meaning to share this little shelf for a while. I bought this shelf at the Good Will about 3 years ago?? I bought it to redo for Daniel's room. In the meantime we bought him two larger shelves at Ikea so he didn't really need this in his room so I decided to use it in Lauren's room.
Here are the before pictures

I couldn't pass it up at only $2.99 and I am glad I didn't.

The first thing I had Joe do is sand it for me. I am horrible at sanding so he did that part. Next I primed it and then paint it with the leftover pink paint we had from Lauren's room.  The little hooks were hard for me to paint. I guess you can't really see them anyway.  I got the "L" before Lauren was born and didn't really have a purpose for it so I thought I could use it here. The only thing is I feel like it limits what I can put on it. So for now here is what I have on it.

Lauren does not have a lot of closet space or dresser space so this is perfect for her jackets. The little owl hook I found at Target in the Dollar section although it was like $2.50 I think. I wasn't sure if it was ok here but it will do.

Shaklee Testimonials

I am working on a fundraiser for Daniel's school and asked my Shaklee users for some testimonials regarding the products they love. Just wanted to share them here as well. I personally am obsessed with my products! I wouldn't recommend them if I didn't think they worked! We use all the products, cleaning, vitamins, weight loss and skin care. I promise you will love them if you try them! And if not Shaklee has a 100% money back guarantee!

"I love the Get Clean line from Shaklee! After two years of using the products, I love that my home and my family are free of chemicals and toxins, found in so many cleaning products and without compromising on quality. It really works and I will never go back!"

"My husband and I use several products from the long list of products that Shaklee offers. We use products in the skin care , cleaning, healthy nutrition (weight loss) line and we also use seven different kinds of vitamins. The products that really stand out and have impressed me are the cleaning products. I spilled ice tea ( a large amount) on my carpet, Nature Bright took the stain right out. I used several products prior to Nature Bright and nothing worked. Also Scour off which I use to clean my shower doors and tile is easy to use with great results. Last year my husband was on the Cinch weight loss program for approximately two months, he lost 25 pounds. One last note Shaklee guarantees their product 100!"

"My husband asked me to buy some comet so that he could give the shower a good scrub. I can no longer use these harsh chemicals because it really makes my asthma flair up. So I grabbed my jar of Scour Off " my favorite shaklee product" and gave it a quick once over. When my husband came home he was amazed at how clean the bathroom was.it smelled great and took less time to clean."

"Shaklee products are the real deal when it comes to being green. If you have sensitive skin they have an awesome detergent with such a clean smell that is truly chemical free. I can say this because my husband has defiantly experienced the difference. We use to use Costco Eco friendly detergent but since using Shaklee my husband has felt such a difference in his skin allergies."

"Quite honestly, there isn’t anything about Shaklee that I don’t LOVE! My home, my family, my health; these are all the most important things to me and everything about Shaklee products fit right into with all of my priorities. I can use any of the Get Clean Products and not worry about sending my kids out of the room because of toxic fumes. I don’t ever have to be afraid that they might get into the kitchen cabinet where I keep my cleaning supplies, because I know they would be safe with my Basic H concentrate if they did get into it. And what is really great, is I can even encourage my children to clean with them and I can be sure it won’t get into their eyes, or cause any breathing problems. I also love that Shaklee is so affordable. My Basic H and Scour Off Concentrate last so long, and can be used for so many things that I don’t ever think of buying cleaning products at the store. Plus, ordering from my own home is so much easier for me than to cart my whole family to the store every week! And finally, I love that Shaklee is committed to the environment. I feel great about my purchasing choices with Shaklee because I know that I am being proactive to help preserve our Earth’s resources. P.S. who doesn’t love the natural smell of cherries when cleaning the stove or bathroom! I love my Scour Off!"

Updated 12/13
"I love my Shaklee cleaning products. They work as good as or better than the toxic cleaners I was using before. The window cleaner is amazing! The laundry products smell fresh and clean. The best part is I can use them without worrying about exposing my baby to harm while I am pregnant! Thanks for your help;) I hope to place another order in the new year !"

Healthy New Year /Better Eating Resolutions

Resolve to snack healthier This year resolve to start eating one more healthy snack a day. Instead of reaching for chips try the new Shaklee 180 Snack Crisps. They are a much healthier snack choice when you are craving something salty and crispy, yet contain a whopping six grams of protein per serving to help stabilize blood sugars. What chip or cracker have you seen that can do that? When you are craving something sweet, instead of reaching for cookies or other sugary carbs, opt for a healthier alternative such as the Shaklee 180 Protein Snack Bars. They are high protein (ten grams of protein per bar with only 15 carbs! These low-glycemic snack bars really hit the sweet spot with me and help sustain my energy without the sugar crash of simple carbohydrates. Another smart option this year is to enjoy a small handful of nuts or trail mix. Take advantage of fresh fruit in season. Citrus fruits like oranges are especially good because they take time to peel and eat. Eat pretzels or a few whole-wheat crackers with low-fat cheese. But only snack when you're really hungry -- not just bored or stressed -- and only eat one serving. To learn more about snacks listed above visit my web site http://creatingahealthieryou.myshaklee180.com/us/en/

Bathroom cleaning

Hope you all had a very Merry Christmas! We had a great Christmas! The kids got so many toys and are enjoying playing with all their new things!
I cleaned both bathrooms yesterday while the kids were away for a sleepover at my parents.
These are the only things I use now to clean my entire bathroom.
I use Basic G to clean the counters and the toilet. I also add one scoop of Nature Bright in the toilet to whiten it. I usually let it sit for a minimum of 15 minutes and then scrub it.
In the shower I spray Basic G and then use Scour off on the tile and glass door. It is amazing!! It does such a great job. Before using these products I would try a new product everytime I ran out of something because nothing really worked. And you should have seen the box of products I gave away when I switched to Shaklee! This stuff WORKS! It still amazing me how few products I need to clean so many things in my home.
I also use Nature Bright to whiten my tile grout if it needs it. I just mix some in a cup with hot water and then use a toothbrush to scrub it.
It had been a long time since I cleaned the glass door, here is a picture.
 And after
And a picture of my faucet, I only used a little Scour Off on this to shine it up!

Here is a link where you can find these products. http://monicamyoung.myshaklee.com/us/en/category.php?main_cat=HomeCare

Hope you have a Happy New Year!!

Take Control of your Health

I have been working on my Shaklee University courses and loving all that I am learning. Just wanted to share some information!
So yes you can control your health. Many people may argue and say no I can't control it but you can control a lot of it. Think about what you bring into your home, the food you buy, store bought and fast food, cleaning products, supplements and much more. Those are all things that you have control over so do your research before buying!

80% is dependent on YOUR choices
20% is genetics

Supplements
Do you take a good multivitamin? Some people have told me that they don't because they eat healthy! Really! But according to Dr. Jamie McManus our lifestyle makes it hard to make all good choices. Our food today is overprocessed, harvested too early, exposed to polluted air and water. Also many people eat fast food because it's more convenient but they are just eating empty calories! If you don't take a multivitamin you should really consider taking one.
This is the multivitamin that I use and love! I also add other vitamins, such as a B-Complex.

Stress management
Contributes to:
Weakened immunity
Chronic diseases
Digestive problems
